Thoughtful fabrication is the difference between a top that looks like it grew in place and one where the veining stops abruptly at a seam.

Layout Decisions That Shape the Finished Look

Granite has movement. Veins drift, clusters of crystals gather in one corner, and color can shift from one end of a slab to the other. Where each piece is cut from the slab decides how the pattern flows across your kitchen.

Ask to see the layout before cutting. Placing a dramatic vein along an island edge, or keeping a busy cluster away from a seam, is a choice you can make once and enjoy for decades.

How a Slab Becomes a Countertop

  1. 01

    Slab review

The chosen slab is inspected for natural fissures, pits and color shifts that should be planned around.

  2. 02

    Layout

Template pieces are positioned to balance pattern, seam placement and yield from the slab.

  3. 03

    Cutting and edging

Saws and routers shape every piece, and the edge profile is ground and polished in stages.

  4. 04

    Quality check

Pieces are dry fit where possible and checked for chips, flatness and matching finish.

Choosing an Edge Profile You Will Like Living With

An eased edge is simple, modern and resists chipping. A full bullnose feels soft on the forearms. Ogee and other decorative profiles add a classic note but collect a little more crumb in the grooves.

If you have small children, rounded corners on islands are worth asking about. They take nothing away from the stone and save a few bumped heads.
