Chip repair is one of the quickest and most satisfying stone fixes.
Where Chips Happen Most
Edges near the sink, dishwasher and range take the most hits from pots, plates and appliance doors. Square edges chip more easily than rounded ones, and undermount sink rims chip when heavy pans strike them.
Save the broken piece if you find it. A clean chip can sometimes be bonded back in place, which gives the closest possible match.
From Chip to Smooth Edge
- 01
Assess
The size and depth of the chip are checked.
- 02
Tint
Resin is tinted to match the background color and crystals of the stone.
- 03
Fill and cure
Resin is applied slightly proud and cured.
- 04
Shape and polish
The fill is trimmed flush and polished to match the edge.
Expectations for a Chip Repair
Repairs on busy, speckled granite often become very hard to spot. On solid dark stone they blend well. On stone with large single crystals, a trained eye may still find the spot up close.
A rounded edge profile reduces future chipping if you are replacing tops later.
